Dazzling in a long lace gown, the 31-year-old actress, who moved millions of viewers to tears last month with her portrayal of young mum Lola Pearce-Brown’s death from a brain tumour, dedicated her award to sufferers of the condition.
“This isn’t for me. This is for every single person who’s worked with me along the way who has been directly affected by brain tumours and for people who are suffering from them,” she told the audience at The Lowry in Greater Manchester’s Salford Quays.
“Their time has been so precious to them and even more to me, and I can’t thank all of you enough for helping me.”
This year’s event, which was hosted by singer and cruise-ship favourite Jane McDonald after the sudden exit of long-time presenter Phillip Schofield from ITV, saw stars from EastEnders, Coronation Street, Hollyoaks, Emmerdale and Doctors out in force.
Taking to the stage in a gold sequinned Badgley Mischka gown, Jane told the star-studded crowd: “I’ve got to say I am a massive fan of the soaps so this is my dream job. Welcome to you all. Thank you for having me.”
