The King welcomed the stars of Gladiator II to Buckingham Palace last week, ahead of the film’s world premiere in London.
His Majesty was joined by the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester at a reception to celebrate the centenary of the Film and TV Charity. The King has become patron of the organisation, a role held by Queen Elizabeth II from 1952 to her death in 2022.
He was congratulated several times on his 76th birthday, which fell the following day.
When Wolf Hall actress Harriet Walter said she thought it was soon, the monarch responded: “It’s my birthday tomorrow, but you don’t need to worry about that!”
