Disgraced Today host Matt Lauer went from the lap of luxury to a quiet existence with his girlfriend!

The sighting was a rare one. On Jan. 28, Matt Lauer and his girlfriend, Shamin Abas, were spotted enjoying a date night in NYC. Holding hands, the couple of three years looked content as they shopped along Madison Avenue on the Upper East Side.

But their quiet life together is a far cry from what Matt, 65, had grown accustomed to while a lead anchor on Today. Amid allegations of sexual misconduct in 2017, the former host lost his job at NBC - for which he was reportedly paid upwards of $25 million per year - and so much more. "Matt was used to living it up," an insider tells Life & Style. "But he has been forced to drastically curb his spending. The days of throwing money away on private jets and expensive bottles of champagne for the whole restaurant are over. Matt is much more low-key these days because he has to be."

HUGE CHANGES

Money stopped coming in, but it quickly went out in the wake of his scandal. Annette Roque, Matt's wife of 20 years, "took him to the cleaners," says the insider, noting that she received an estimated $50 million settlement in their divorce. "She thinks he's a total jerk."
