Can Eamonn and Ruth stay amicable?

When Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes announced they were to divorce after 14 years, many fans were gobsmacked. But after years of "big rows" on and off screen, it seems trouble may have been brewing in paradise for a while.

A spokesperson for the former This Morning hosts, both 64, gave a statement on their split which stated, "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing."

However, the couple are determined to remain friends, and a source has told us that they are working hard to get through this tough time, to avoid things "turning toxic".

"Ruth and Eamonn have always said it like it is to each other. They both have really strong personalities. That's part of the reason they released their statement together, rather than separately, as they wanted to prevent things getting explosive," the source said.

"Plus, their friends don't want to see things turn toxic - but they know they've never shied away from talking about their ups and downs."
