Hot on the heels of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at the Invictus Games in Germany, last week was the Prince and Princess of Wales’ turn to shine. While Kate stepped out for UK engagements, William jetted to New York for the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, with the ambitious goal of saving the planet via the 10-year project.
But there was heartache behind William’s heroism, arriving on Prince Harry’s adopted US home turf with no sign of a reconciliation between the two brothers.
Royal expert Duncan Larcombe tells OK! Harry will have been very much in William’s thoughts during “quieter moments” on his Big Apple trip.
“There are always going to be certain things that remind William of his younger brother, and will be upsetting for him – I don’t doubt that for a second,” says Duncan. “I’d love to know how much William saw of the Invictus Games, and whether or not he even dared to watch the Netflix documentary Heart Of Invictus. Maybe it was just too painful for him.
“It’s such a shame. Things could have been so different if the boys were on speaking terms. They could have lent some clout to each other’s projects. These opportunities are being lost.”
Despite the hurt, Duncan says William and Kate are determined to put all the negativity firmly in the past.
“I think William’s way of dealing with it is to focus on the job in hand, and that’s how he’s coped. It’s the same with Kate. They’re rolling their sleeves up and getting on with it.”
