GETTING PEOPLE BACK TOGETHER: TUCKING INTO THE BIG JUBILEE LUNCH

Speaking in advance of the Big Jubilee Lunch planned as a nationwide event for the final day of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the Duchess of Cornwall said “It’s just wonderful to get people back together again, isn’t it? It’s a lovely way to celebrate, it’s a lovely way to get to know your neighbours and to have a lot of delicious food and chat.”

She joined her husband the Prince of Wales to tuck into a Big Jubilee Lunch at The Oval cricket ground in South London, where they marvelled at a 20ft tea table made entirely of felt and cut a big cake before toasting Her Majesty.

The Prince of Wales said he would like to see the sense of “togetherness” felt by the public during the four-day long celebrations for the Platinum Jubilee continue long after the partying ended.

The couple mingled with 450 guests from a number of organisations, local residents and a group of 70 volunteers from the Royal Voluntary Service.

Sarah Friar, CEO of neighbourhood app Nextdoor, was sitting opposite the Prince at the lunch table. She said: “He said at the end how great it was that everyone comes together this weekend.”

Driving home his point, she said he added: “When it comes to Monday are we going to go back to all the bickering again? Let’s hope we don’t do that.”

LARGEST STREET PARTY

Meanwhile, the Earl and Countess of Wessex joined thousands of the Queen’s neighbours for a huge ‘long lunch’ on the Long Walk, the iconic three-mile-long avenue that leads up to Windsor Castle, outside the gates of Windsor Castle.
