IN ARAW NEW DOCUMENTARY, WYNONNA JUDD SHARES HER GRIEF AND GUILT- OVER THE TRAGIC LOSS OF HER BELOVED MOTHER, NAOMI JUDD

IN the opening scene of the powerful documentary Wynonna Judd: Between Hell and Hallelujah, the country music star fights off tears as she recalls the day her mother, Naomi, committed suicide at the age of 76. “When I pass my mom’s house, I still think of the day I got the call,” she says. Naomi shot herself in the head at her Tennessee home on April 30, 2022. “It’s weird,” says the “Only Love” singer. “Your brain replays and replays trauma until it’s filed.”

It’s been a year since Naomi died following a lifelong battle with depression. The country music world was devastated, but few felt the loss as deeply as Wynonna — together, she and her mother won five Grammy Awards and scored 14 No. 1 singles as the successful singing duo The Judds. Now, with the release of the Paramount+ documentary, Wynonna, 58, is opening up like never before about her devastation, guilt and grief. “Wynonna has been through so much in her life,” says a source, “but her mother’s death is one thing she will never get over.”
