IN THIS CRAZY old world of almost infinite consumer choice, PC gamers are faced with a few trade-offs when selecting an affordable screen, which is where the Lenovo Legion Y25-30 comes in. At 25 inches and just 1080p native resolution, it’s modestly specified. What you get is a maximum refresh rate of 280Hz via an IPS panel that’s claimed to be good for 0.5ms response. And all for $340.
The Y25-30 prioritizes speed, but that’s not all it has going for it. The panel is an eight-bit IPS model with HDR400 support and 400 nits of brightness. There’s good connectivity too, with DisplayPort, HDMI, and a quad-port USB hub. USB-C doesn’t feature—the benefit would be single-cable connectivity with power delivery. But the 100W maximum power provided by the existing USB-C spec isn’t good enough for a proper gaming laptop.
