During a 1988 interview with Johnny Carson on US TV’s The Tonight Show, Hollywood legend Bette Davis famously described Faye Dunaway as ‘just totally impossible’ to work with, adding that ‘everybody you could put into this chair would tell you exactly the same thing’.
So was the Oscar-winning star challenging, misunderstood or being held to a standard that was not applied to male co-stars such as Warren Beatty, Steve McQueen and Jack Nicholson?
The feature-length documentary Faye doesn’t shy away from its subject’s reputation for being difficult to work with. Drawing on interviews with Dunaway, her adopted son Liam and former collaborators and friends, including Mickey Rourke and Sharon Stone, it looks back over her life and stellar career.
