NEW DRAMA
Call the Midwife
Christmas Day, 7.55pm, BBC1 New Year’s Day, 8pm, BBC1
Christmas 1967 brings high emotion, romance and some surprising hidden talents to Poplar in the festive special of Call the Midwife.
The community comes together when handyman and newsagent Fred (Cliff Parisi) organises a talent show, while indomitable Nurse Crane (Linda Bassett) helps Cindy (Jesse Akele), a destitute young pregnant woman who has recently been released from prison.
FAMILIAR FACES The episode also marks the return of the Mullucks family, whose little girl Susan (Emily Webb) was born with disabilities due to the thalidomide scandal, which was explored back in series five. Susan is now struggling to adjust to wearing artificial limbs, while mum Rhoda (Liz White) is concerned about the imminent birth of her fourth baby, and dad Bernie (Chris Reilly) is drowning his sorrows in drink.
