HOT MESS

Not washing your hair every day is actually healthier, both for your locks and for your scalp-if only looking good without that daily shampoo wasn't such a major challenge. Ahead, tips and tricks to turn tired tresses into chic hairstyles, as well as cleansing advice for when wash day finally comes around

HOT MESS

Whether you’re protecting freshly-bleached or permed tresses, or trying to preserve a rapidly-fading shade of Kendall-Jenner copper, looking cute while holding off on that hair wash for just another day is a major challenge — we’ve been there.

No day-two hair looks the same, either. For those with thinning hair, going a day or two between washes can help with keeping those locks healthy, but it might also mean limp tresses and visibly greasy roots. Those with dry or damaged hair might actually benefit from the natural oils on the scalp, but will probably have to battle with a lack of volume at the crown instead.

So we’ve compiled the best no-wash, heat-free hairstyles to prevent day-old hair from looking too old, and offer advice on how to shampoo those tresses back to life on wash day.

INTO THE GLOSS

Your body (and hair) tends to produce more sebum overnight, so going for slicked-back hairstyles is a clever way to make greasy roots look like a deliberate beauty decision. Actress Lee Hyeri’s spiky high bun is a good option — this is actually created by sectioning the ponytail into two braids, and twisting them together. A few baby hairs pulled to the front lends dimension to the hairstyle. If you have thinner hair, lean into it with Dua Lipa’s skinny braided ponytail for that “I just finished a game of tennis” brand of sporty chic.
