One thing you can rely on Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele is he’s mastery at storytelling. Which explains the whimsical, almost fairytale-like quality to his designs, be them on the runway or in this particular case, on the extravagant masterpieces of Hortus Deliciarum, Gucci’s high jewellery collection.
Entering its third act following its debut in 2019, Hortus Deliciarum now finds inspiration in the Grand Tour of the nineteenth century, once a traditional trip taken by European noblemen as a rites of passage. Unfolding like a creative ode by Alessandro Michele to specific historical and architectural eras, the collection presents itself as “five enlightened and enlightening chapters of a travel diary.” A history and geography lesson told in high jewellery, with Michele as our guide.
