Marvel Comics and DC movies may not be high-brow enough for our parasocial boyfriends, but when it comes to our A-list girl crushes and fashion muses the advice is seemingly the complete opposite: if you want to get anywhere in this biz, you need to join a franchise.

A comic book movie is a death knell for the Serious Man but necessary for an Already Talented Woman to get industry attention. The idea seems to be that their stints in these franchises will be small blemishes on otherwise artfully curated IMDb pages.
