AOJ: When and how was the brand Sankesh Surana born?

Sankesh: My career in jewellery started early; I was part of a brand that dealt in gemstones. Having grown a keen interest in designing, I started pursuing it fulltime. After designing for manufacturers, corporate brands, and elite clients, as well as collaborating with other leading designers. In 2022, my sister, Preethi Chopda, and I inaugurated our brand's flagship studio in Jayanagar, Bangalore. This marked the official birth of the brand after more than 8 years of catering to our clients, winning their hearts, and receiving numerous national and international awards along the way.

AOJ: What inspires your design philosophy, and how do you translate those inspirations into your jewellery creations?

Sankesh: I have a deep appreciation for nature, culture, and individual stories. Whether it's the delicate dance of a flower's petals or a rich piece of cultural heritage, I draw inspiration from the world around us and try to render it from my perspective. I enjoy the revival of patterns and techniques of the past, blending them with jewellery to make it suited for the contemporary world.
