PAINTING COLOURS

Dani Omar is known for his signature brush strokes and Songket designs on canvas. Besides flourishing as an artist, he also incorporates colours in his daily style.

When did you start this journey as an artist?

I started when I was a child. I’ve always been that kid who liked to draw and colour the walls. My parents were supportive from the beginning. One significant moment that confirmed their support was a present from them. It was a whiteboard and a marker pen. Back in school, I also joined competitions and was relatively active in the arts and crafts classes.

Why painting? 

I majored in ceramic sculpture in university and the course I took gave me more opportunities to explore other arts like painting and printmaking. When practising the craft of ceramics, I found it to be something that I wasn’t so keen on pursuing long-term. For me, it was rather messy, and it required a lot of space. That’s when I decided to stick with what I already knew and loved, which was painting. I’ve been doing this Songket subject matter since my school days. I would say it’s become my signature style.
