UNHAPPY WRITERS REVOLT, WITH CELEBRITIES STANDING BY THEIR SIDE

Nearly a month has passed since Hollywood ground to a halt, with screenwriters from all the major studios walking out in a dispute that has left the industry in crisis.

On May 2, around 11,500 screenwriters represented by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) voted to strike after failing to reach an agreement on issues including salary, minimum staffing levels and workplace protections.

The union had been negotiating for six weeks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents huge production houses such as Netflix, Amazon and Disney, before talks broke down.
