As a lover and collector of perfumes and scents, when Burberry approached us to exclusively interview both Aurelien Guichard (AG), a maestro of perfumery and nose behind the Hero Parfum, as well as Adam Driver (AD), the face of the Burberry Hero since 2021, I knew I couldn't say no. What's a regular morning spritz for us has plenty happening behind-the-scenes from conceptualisation to realisation, so they fill us in on the knowledge of what makes a scent so memorable, right from the top notes to the voice of the campaign. If anything, I can confidently say that we all need a Hero.
Aurelien, give us an introduction to the newest iteration of Hero.
AG: I've been working on Hero for the past few years. The idea of creating a fragrance for men that was really a balance between encourage-ability and strength, at the same time with a sensibility kind of softness, is a great expression of what you can create in a perfume for men.
I'm from the South of France and have a passion for Cedarwood. When I was learning about perfumery, one of the most amazing things I was taught was about Cedarwood, because there are so many different facets according to the origins. I always thought it would be something special to create a way to blend different origins of Cedarwood together to create something unique, and Hero allowed me to do that.
Adam, how would you describe the notes of the new Burberry Hero?
AD: Well, I use it in the morning, and actually my wife uses it too. It's long-lasting and very woodsy, which is the thing I noticed first. And it has a lot of depth, but it's really subtle. The last one is more intense in a good way. So, I guess to answer your question, woodsy is the first part. And I like its subtlety.
