Behind the Scent

Behind the Scent

A true visionary in the artistry of all things beauty, the house of Guerlain is known for many things—from creating the first-ever lipstick to pioneering the very first serum, founding one of the world’s first spas to originating bronzers—the list is nothing short of extraordinary. But from the very beginning, the alchemy of perfumery has always been the beating heart of its storied legacy, one that has shaped the fragrance world for nearly two centuries.

Since its inception in 1828, the maison has continually redefined how we experience and think about scent, crafting fragrances that evoke emotion, stir memories, and captivate the senses in profound ways. Under the ingenious direction of Guerlain’s in-house master perfumer Thierry Wasser—the first non-family “nose” to take the helm of its olfactory legacy—the maison continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in scent, culminating in its haute perfumery collection, L’Art & La Matière.

The L’Art & La Matière collection is, in essence, the pièce de resistance of Guerlain perfumers’ mastery of the complex language of scent—a passion that has been the lifeblood of the maison for generations. Each creation is an aromatic masterpiece centred around a single star ingredient of the most exceptional quality, crafted with such impeccable savoir-faire to capture the essence of a moment, an experience, or a feeling.

On that note, we’ll leave it to Thierry Wasser to tell you more about the L’Art & La Matière collection himself.

How does the L’Art & La Matière range differ from the other Guerlain fragrance collections?
