Spring is here, and with it comes the opportunity to transform your patio into an outdoor oasis. Whether you have a small balcony or a sprawling backyard, spending time outdoors is an essential South African pastime. Making a few adjustments and adding some must-haves will encourage you to lounge outdoors daily this season.
REFRESH
Refreshing your outdoor space after winter is a crucial first step in creating an inviting spring patio. This is all about cleanliness, tidiness and setting a fresh canvas for the exciting changes to come.
Begin by sweeping your patio floor to remove any loose debris that may have accumulated over winter. Once the surface is clear, a deep clean may be necessary to tackle any stubborn dirt or stains that are dulling the appearance of your patio. A power washer is a satisfying tool to use and cuts the time spent cleaning by more than half.
Next, turn your attention to your outdoor furniture. Start by dusting off tables and chairs, then clean any cushions and upholstery. You could also consider updating your furniture covers or giving metal or wooden furniture a fresh coat of paint if needed rather than purchasing entirely new furniture. Don't forget your outdoor accessories too - items such as outdoor rugs, decorative pieces, and even your braai can benefit from a good clean now.
A thorough refresh will set the perfect foundation for the other enhancements you plan to make. It may require a bit of elbow grease, but the result is worth the effort.
SOFTEN THE SPACE
Once you understand the canvas you’re working with, it’s time to create a cosy, comfortable atmosphere that makes you want to spend all your time outdoors.
