Taking things back to when you were growing up, how did life start out for you?
"I had a really solid upbringing and still continue to do so. I had a very loving household that was very open and very honest, and my parents instilled lots of good morals, ethics, and an openness and vulnerability in me. All the stuff that has gone on to give me my value base and purpose in life was definitely instilled at a young age. I was very lucky to have two parents who really shared that message of, 'You can tell us anything, you can be anything, and you can do anything'. Obviously, my brother is my biggest advocate too. He always has been and still continues to be as part of the band. We're very close and from a family perspective we've always been a really good unit. We've got a big family too. We've got Jewish descendancy, Irish in our family, and northern English too. I've got a Liverpudlian mother and a Yorkshire father, and me and Davyd [Winter-Bates, Bury Tomorrow bassist] were both born in Halifax. When I was quite young, around two or three, we went out and lived in Abu Dhabi for a few years and my brother had schooling there and stuff. I don't remember much of it, but it definitely instilled a bit of cultural awareness in my head. After that, we moved from there down south and I started up my full life in the south of England. It's a massive difference from the north in terms of mindset and attitude, so that was really interesting. I've always been close to my northern family, but as I've gotten older, I've developed a bit more of a kinship with the north as I've investigated and understood myself more through life."
It was when you moved down to Southampton that you first started school, too. Was that something that you took to naturally?
