Nestled in the greens of outer Delhi, the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) stands as a beacon of excellence, fostering the next generation of media professionals with its rich legacy and innovative curriculum. The nearly six-decade-old institution under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has traditionally offered a one-year Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism. However, from this year, it is a deemed to be university, which should give it greater freedom in designing its courses and curriculum that not just reflect new-age career options for journalists beyond the newsroom but also capture the constant tectonic shifts in the media landscape. New courses on offer include MA in Media Business Studies, and Strategic Communications. There are specialised journalism courses on how to leverage tools like Generative AI, drones and even Augmented and Virtual Reality. This is in addition to the existing stream-based courses in print, TV, radio and digital journalism. The institute’s course on Environment Journalism has been popular for years. It has now started a course on Health Communications. n
WHAT SETS IT APART
IIMC is now recognised as a deemed to be university, granting it the freedom to craft courses and curriculum that not only embrace modern career paths for journalists beyond traditional newsrooms but also adapt to the ever-changing media environment
IIMC gets the best in the industry as regular faculty. It’s not just the theoretical teaching, but the regular practical exposure to real work that makes education here special
