After going out of the FA Trophy and the FA Cup and suffering two league defeats, Chesham badly needed a lift and got it thanks to a goal in each half against a Gosport side who finished the game with ten men after their goalkeeper Toby Steward was sent off.

With so much at stake, it was no surprise that both sides made a cagey start.

Chesham began to get into gear midway through the half and had the first effort of note when Harry Rush’s shot came off a defender and flew behind for a corner.
