SLOUGH Town boss Scott Davies reckons competing in National League South becomes tougher each season but believes he is uncovering more ‘hidden gems’ to replace the old guard.
The Rebels have lost five key players this summer following their tenthplace finish at Step 2, including winger Johnny Goddard who has joined full-time, newly-relegated Boreham Wood.
However, he has landed the likes of former Hanwell Town striker Sam Evans and ex-Walton & Hersham attacker John Gilbert, underlining his desire to progress by shopping at lower levels without breaking the bank.
The Arbour Park player-manager said: “I want to find the hidden gems in the three levels below us. You just have to find the right ones and it is only a big step if you don’t have the right squad around you.
“I don’t know whether some lads are playing below themselves lower down or maybe even some at Step 1 are playing above themselves.
