"I kept using the same analogy, when your dog dies, you don't want another dog' and that was how it felt'," the 38-year-old told The NLP.
Offers soon arrived and were just as quickly knocked back until one day Harris got the call he'd always dreamt of.
"Getting contact from Kingstonian soon helped me shake it all off," Harris added. "The club has always meant so much to me.
"My Dad [Kim] managed the club on a few different occasions and there are other family ties there from when I was a kid, so the idea of going in and helping them grabbed me straight away.
"When I was growing up, it seemed like Kingstonian were at Wembley every five minutes! They were on the TV regularly, getting big crowds...it was them and Woking really, the two big teams in Surrey. The club meant something to a lot of people."
Sadly, though, there was a good reason why the club had come calling. Without a home to call their own and attendances at an all-time low, the Ks were now left facing their first season playing Step 4 football for 16 years following relegation from Isthmian Premier division last season.
