The Greens’ hopes of a prosperous Southern Premier South campaign last term were left in ruins when they lost six on the spin at the start of the campaign. In the end, they scrambled clear of the relegation zone, finishing 18th.
It’s not something that former Biggleswade Town boss Allinson wants to repeat in a hurry.
“It was a very strange one last year and we didn’t see it coming,” he told The NLP. “We probably should have won two or three of the first six games.
“Like anything, football is a game of confidence. When you are winning, you just roll on, but when you keep losing, everything you do in pre-season goes out of the window.
“It was a really difficult year mentally and physically. At the business end of the season we were playing Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and to stay up was a good achievement in the end.”
Having let the dust settle on a testing campaign, Allinson has been able to reflect on what went wrong. He believes the Kingsbury-based Dons need to return to their former blueprint of looking for young talented players that they can develop.
