Lawrence is hungry for more, says JVG

JOHANN van Graan is excited to see how good a player Ollie Lawrence can become with the England international potentially still having his best years ahead of him.

Lawrence, 24, finished last season strongly following his move from Worcester and took that form into the World Cup before returning to Bath with a bang.

“If you look back to the Saracens game last April and his next home game against Bristol, he was phenomenal in both, so I think it is fair to say he has had a good transfer from the end of last season to the World Cup and then back to us this season,” said Bath’s calm and composed head of rugby.

“He is one of our most important players and the reason why I signed him was to get gain line and get momentum.

“Literally every time he touched the ball (against Bristol), it felt like he could score a try which is good for us as a group.”

Whilst Lawrence’s form has been exceptional, van Graan says he is still not the finished article, especially given his relative youth. “The day you stop learning and growing as a player is the day you should stop playing this game,” he mentioned.

“Some of the very best players I have been privileged enough to coach learnt and grew until their very last game of rugby.
