A big knee injury and then simply the challenge of getting a run of games in Quins’ star-studded back division has thwarted Lynagh’s progress a little but after being called into the matchday 23 late on yesterday and then replacing Oscar Beard early on, he seized the chance to make up for lost time.
It was 7-7 after the first quarter – tries from Nick David for Quins and Ulster’s David McCann – when Lynagh changed the course of the game with a brilliant try from deep.
Marcus Smith, running backwards, took a tumbling mark deep in his 22 and as he got up had a word with Lynagh who was in close attendance. Something was on. Smith tapped, made a few yards and then released Lynagh who was running at full pelt some 80 yards out. First he sprinted away impressively and then battered his way through Billy Burns in midfield.
