Ahmedabad's auto-rickshaw drivers are feeling the heat as city police crack down on those flouting the new fare meter rules. From January 1, 2025, all autos must use working meters, as per a directive issued on December 4, 2024. Yet, a Mirror check found many drivers around key spots like Kalupur railway station, Thaltej metro station and Iskcon crossroads ignoring the rule. Police are now slapping offenders with penalties to ensure everyone complies.
Hundreds fined
By Thursday evening, January 2, 2025, a total of 685 cases of non-functional meters were recorded across Ahmedabad's traffic divisions. The G-Traffic division saw the most offences with 124, followed by M-Traffic with 121 and E-Traffic with 85.
