Digital arrests: Rs 13cr lost in 10 months in Guj

55 cases reported in various police stations of Gujarat from Jan to Oct 2024; the number could be much higher as not all cases get reported

When a 27-year-old woman from Ahmedabad's Naranpura area was put under digital arrest and forced to strip, she not only had to endure the trauma but also lost Rs5 lakh to cyber crooks in the process. The crooks had posed as officials of enforcement agencies while carrying out the digital arrest. The woman thus joined a long list of people who fell victim to the scam this year so far in the state.
