Lack of credit transfer a big gap in NEP implementation

At the All India Technical Universities Vice Chancellor's Conclave at Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General of the Association of Indian Universities, expressed displeasure over slow implementation of Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) system.

Mittal, a speaker in the inaugural session, stated that while the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has taken up the task of opening ABC accounts for students in technical universities, no universities in India have started transferring credits for courses between each other, undermining the main objective of ABC to facilitate flexible entry and exit.

Mittal also pointed out that, contrary to the core ethos of allowing students to take up courses from multiple universities simultaneously, universities have still not started giving admission to individual subject courses to earn credits. Instead, they continue to give admission to full courses like BTech, limiting students' options.
