Harvey Weinstein rape conviction overturned

HARVEY Weinstein's New York rape conviction has been overturned by the state's highest court - which ordered he should face a new trial.

In a 4-3 decision, it was ruled the justice who oversaw the case prejudiced the disgraced-movie mogul with improper rulings.

The court said: "We conclude that the trial court erroneously admitted testimony of uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts against persons other than the complainants of the underlying crimes."

The judge, James Burke, also "compounded that error" by ruling that Weinstein, if he chose to testify, could be grilled on the witness stand "about those allegations as well as numerous allegations of misconduct that portrayed defendant in a highly prejudicial light".
