THE prices of some staple foods have soared by 63 per cent in a year, figures revealed yesterday.

Spaghetti and butter are among the goods that have shot up in price, making life even tougher for households already grappling with huge hikes in energy and fuel costs.

The cost of a typical 500g own-brand pack of the pasta rocketed by 63 per cent – from 52p in August 2021 to 85p now.

And 500g of Lurpak butter is up 63p, from £3.58 last year to £4.21 now – a jump of more than 17.5 per cent

A four-pint carton of milk now costs an average 34p more than it did 12 months ago.
