Relatives lose appeal on Calocane sentence

FAMILIES of the three Nottingham knife attack victims have suffered fresh agony after the Court of Appeal ruled killer Valdo Calocane's indefinite hospital order sentence was not "unduly lenient".

Relatives of Barnaby Webber, Grace O'Malley-Kumar and Ian Coates reiterated their demand for a public inquiry into the attacks last June.

Barnaby's mother Emma branded the hearing's outcome as surprise" and "inevitable".

"She said: "Almost 90% of people serving hospital orders are out within 10 years and 98% within 20 years.

"The families now face their own life sentence of ensuring the monster that is Valdo Calocane becomes the next Ian Brady and is never released." Nottingham University students Barnaby and best friend Grace, both 19, were walking home from a nightclub last June when Calocane, 32, pounced and stabbed them to death.
