CCTV footage has shown missing TV doctor Michael Mosley 20 minutes after he left his wife at a Greek beach.
Police on the island of Symi said the figure in a dark shirt and blue cap shading himself from the sun with an umbrella was definitely the broadcaster known for his 5:2 and The Fast 800 diets.
The shopfront pictures, taken at around 1.52pm on Wednesday, emerged as emergency crews continued their search for Michael, 67, with sniffer dogs, coastguard teams, divers, drones and a helicopter. Residents using their boats also joined in.
The footage now indicates the broadcaster successfully crossed steep and rocky path from the coast to the village of Pedi.
Michael disappeared on Wednesday after leaving picturesque St Nikolas Beach to walk back to the main town, where he was staying with his wife Clare Bailey, a GP, and two friends.
Police initially feared he may have "fallen from a height" while walking along the path. But an officer said:
"We know now that he crossed the path, that he made it to the other side and got to Pedi.
"Now we have to look at all the possible paths he could have taken from there." Father-of-four Michael was last seen by Clare at the beach at about 1.30pm.
The couple had arrived there with two friends in a small boat and after a swim, keen hiker Michael decided to walk back to the main town on his own.
Local reports said he told his wife and friends on the beach that he was feeling unwell before setting off on the walk.
The journey over hilly and rocky terrain is less than three miles and despite temperatures of 36C, it should not have taken more than an hour.
