The big time is still a Salford pipedream

IN the brochure the dream was to take Salford City into the Premier League.

But for the Class of '92, celebrating the 10th anniversary today of their takeover being ratified, the reality is slap-bang in the middle of League Two after Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by rock-bottom Carlisle.

Manchester At United, where to they went from a band of brothers in the youth team Treble-winning legends, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Gary Neville and his brother Phil deservedly basked in the reflected glory of Sir Alex Ferguson's managerial genius.

But four-and-a-half miles across town at Moor Lane their stardust has been harder to find.

Where they once seasoned the pot liberally at United, a cast of experienced managers has only been able to add a pinch of salt to the Ammies' crusade.
