The Home Secretary has signed agreements with the Iraqi and Kurdish governments to bolster law enforcement and fast-track returns of illegal migrants.

Some £800,000 will be spent on measures such as helping Baghdad "disrupt serious organised crime" and a new "irregular migration and border security taskforce" for the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

The Daily Express in August revealed how the Home Office wants to "go after" the criminal networks "at source" and lead international operations.

More than 2,000 Iraqis arrived in the year to September after crossing the Channel.
