EIGHT more people died yesterday morning when their boat capsized as 53 migrants attempted to cross the Channel.
Just nine of those attempting the journey were wearing life jackets when the vessel hit rocks off the northern French coast.
A 10-month-old baby was among those taken to hospital with hypothermia as the deaths this year in the Channel rose to 45.
Foreign Secretary David Lammy said: "It's awful. It's a further loss of life."
Charities demanded an end to the crossings and insisted deaths were not inevitable.
Rescue services were alerted after the rubber vessel got into difficulty in the sea off Boulogne at lam.
