CCTV believed to show TV doctor Michael Mosley alive and well half an hour after he was last seen on a Greek holiday island was being probed by police last night.
Detectives earlier said they were working on a theory the 67-year-old may have fallen while hiking along a coastal path on the isle of Symi after leaving pals on the beach at 1.30pm on Wednesday.
But footage seen by the Mirror appears to show a man resembling Dr Mosley walking with a purple umbrella in Pedi Marina, just over a mile from the beach, at 1.52pm having already completed the first part of the route.
The search has now switched to a second, more treacherous path from the marina. CCTV footage from a house at the edge of the marina showed the man with the umbrella entering the path at about 2pm on Wednesday.
One of the rescuers said his decision was "inexplicable", adding it would have taken a fit young person three hours to walk to the port that way.
She said: "The path is not easy to follow. If he took a wrong turn, he would be lost. He could be anywhere. It is a race against time." The little-used path goes inland rather than following the coast.
