Hunt for survivors after 126 perish

AT least 126 people have been killed and a further 188 injured in a major earthquake that struck near Mount Everest.

Around 1,500 rescue workers were last night continuing to search for survivors among the rubble of destroyed houses, in temperatures that plunged to -17C.

The quake had a magnitude of 7.1 at its epicentre in the northern foothills of the Himalayas in Tibet, according to data from the US Geological Survey.

Experts said it damaged more than 1,000 homes due to the flimsy design of many structures.
