A BODY believed to be that of British teenager Jay Slater was yesterday lifted by helicopter from a rugged part of Tenerife, described by police as inaccessible.

The 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer was last heard from on June 17 while walking back to his accommodation after a night out.

Spanish police believe he may have suffered an accident or fall near the spot where his mobile phone was located.

Jay's possessions and clothes were found alongside the body. Police said: "Everything is pointing to it being a young British man."

LBT Global, the missing persons organisation which is working with his mum Debbie Duncan, 55, dad Warren Slater, 58, and brother Zak, 24, confirmed the tragic news.

It came hours after Debbie spoke of the family's heartache over her missing son, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire.

Debbie revealed the family had read awful comments and conspiracy theories online.

She described Jay as a "loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend", adding: "He is loved by everyone and has a close bond with his family and many, many friends." Warren called the ordeal "a living hell".

TOWERING

His son flew to Tenerife with friends on June 13 to attend a music festival at Papagayo nightclub in Playa de las Americas - in the southern part of the Spanish island - on June 16.

That night, he and two older British men went back to a £40-a-night Airbnb in Masca, a tiny remote village dwarfed by towering cliffs in north-western Tenerife.
