THE son of the nanny battered to death by Lord Lucan has confronted the man who he believes is the missing aristocrat.
In 2020 the Mirror revealed how Neil Berriman was convinced he had found the Lord in Brisbane, Australia.
The confrontation came as dramatic scenes for three BBC documentaries were filmed. The first one airs tonight to mark the 50th anniversary of the crime which stunned the world.
The frail pensioner, who has a posh English accent, denies being Lucan but admits to officially changing his name on four separate occasions.
Neil confronted him off camera and he said the man told him: "If I am Lord Lucan what the f*** are you going to do? Put me in prison?"
Lucan would be 89 if he was alive.
Following the meeting, the man agreed to give an on-the-record interview on camera, without Neil present.
He said: "On the birth certificate it says Derek Bell Crowther. I think"
When questioned, the mystery man said: "I grew up around London. Different places. Asked if he went to Eton, he replied: "Yeah I was sent there. I went to school, but I was thrown out."
BUDDHIST
Intriguingly, he added: "Part of the family was English aristocracy, Buckingham Palace."
He continued: "I haven't been on the run for 40 years I've been trying to find reasonable places to live, companions and friends. I do not know who the hell Lord Lucan is... OK?
