CRITICS sounded a âred alertâ for America after Donald Trump chose one of his devoted followers as the countryâs top law officer.
Florida congressman Matt Gaetz will be attorney general when Trump returns to power in January.
The move raised fears of the Justice Department being weaponised to seek revenge on Trumpâs opponents.
Democrat senator Chris Murphy said: âGaetz has openly called for the abolition of law enforcement agencies if they donât align with conservative priorities.
âThis is a red alert moment for American democracy,â he added.
Republican colleague Lisa Murkowski added: âI donât think itâs a serious nomination.
