THE football club where eight-yearold Jay Cartmell played has paid tribute to him as a "talented little guy" after he was shot dead on farmland.
Jay is thought to have been hunting rabbits when he suffered head injuries due to a gun discharge on Saturday afternoon.
He died later in hospital.
A man in his 60s from West Cumbria was held on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter after the incident on land by the A66 in Warcop, Cumbria. He has now been released on bail.
Football clubs joined forces to pay tribute to Jay, who played for Whitehaven Miners Social FC.
Posting on social media, the club said: "RIP wee man #oneofours #lanternforlife.
