Your chime's up

AN ICE cream van owner has been threatened with legal action after residents complained his chimes were too loud and used too often.

John Barton, who runs Harrison's Ices, was stunned to receive a council letter saying he could be prosecuted for noise pollution caused by his jingles.

The warning stated locals allege the chimes are "overly loud" and "sounded too often/frequently and potentially for too long between 6pm and 7pm.

But baffled John, 33, claims he is not breaking any rules and his vans stick to the required 45-decibel limit when playing their chime in 12-second bursts.
