1 IN 4 GPS ARE READY TO QUIT

PRIMARY healthcare in Scotland is "at breaking point" amid fears a quarter of family doctors are planning to quit their practice within two years.

A survey of GPs in Scotland by the British Medical Association found just one in 20 believe their practice is in a long-term sustainable position.

Nearly two-thirds said they feared losing just one doctor from their team could tip the practice into collapse.

Dr Andrew Buist, of BMA Scotland, said without "urgent action" parts of the country could "become seriously under-doctored" - with patients left struggling "even more than they are right now to get appointments".
