£150K DUGS RAID

DOGS worth £150,000 were seized by cops in a raid on a drug dealer who plied his trade with an encrypted phone, a court has heard.

Police found canines of “very unusual breeds” after arresting Scott Bennett in Strathaven, Lanarkshire, in October 2021.

A hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh heard yesterday that 50 dogs – 29 female and 21 male – were being looked after by the Scottish SPCA.

Prosecutors are using proceeds of crime legislation to recover some of Bennett 'sill gotten gains.

During the hearing , defence lawyer Michael Anderson KC asked for more information about the animals.

He told judge Lord Braid: “I fear I’ve been barking up the wrong tree.”
