FLAMINGO Land's bid to build a £40million mega resort on the shores of Loch Lomond has moved a step closer after councillors decided not to oppose the plans.

West Dunbartonshire Council members voted last night simply to "note" the planned leisure site in Balloch - despite the local authority unanimously objecting to the original plans in 2019.

The final decision on the proposed development lies with the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park Authority. The firm's plans for the famed beauty spot include a water park, monorail, swimming pool, hotel, restaurants and more than 100 lodges.

Despite clocking up a record 84,000 objections, the proposals won the support of council planning officers, who urged members to grant permission.

Flamingo Land is a well-known brand in the UK, with a theme park, zoo and resort operating in Yorkshire since the 50s.
