CAM IN A STORM

CAM NORRIE survived a flamboyant Frenchman, a febrile crowd and an “absurd call” from a German umpire to be the Last Brit Standing at the French Open.

Jack Draper had earlier followed Dan Evans out – and a quick Parisian Brexit in the singles was close when the British No.1 trailed to world No.149 Benoit Paire.

The world No.14 fought back to beat the French wildcard in five loud sets – and silence the cheers and boos of his fans in Court SuzanneLenglen.

“I think it’s great to play those matches in Grand Slams against home favourites, and I think that’s why I play tennis,” Norrie said.

“I love those moments. It was a really, really tough match. It was nice to get through it.”

But Norrie also had to compete with Nico Helwerth after the German umpire penalised him for hindrance when the Brit grunted loudly during a rally at 1-1 30-30 in the second set.

It was the second controversial call against a Briton in two days after Evans was called for foot-fault during his defeat on Sunday
