AN £8.5MILLION scheme to install landline phones in every Scottish jail cell was announced yesterday.
The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) said the new handsets would replace controversial mobile phones issued during the Covid pandemic, which were abused by thousands of cons.
Inmates will be given 200 free minutes each month to call numbers from a pre-approved list, which prison chiefs and reform campaigners say will help lower reoffending rates.
