'Convict trio over killing of Caroline'

JURORS have been urged to convict three people of the “horrific and brutal” murder of schoolgirl Caroline Glachan.

Robert O’Brien, 45, and Andrew Kelly and Donna Marie Brand, both 44, are accused of killing Caroline, 14, at the River Leven in West Dunbartonshire on August 25, 1996.

The High Court in Glasgow had heard that Caroline and O’Brien, who was around four years older than her at the time, had been in a relationship.

The teen was said to have left a friend that night to see O’Brien but he is alleged to have hit her around 10 times with a blunt instrument and she fell into the water and drowned.
